Be careful - you may never want to leave

A beach lifestyle so close to Brisbane

Many of us spend time dreaming of a life by the beach.   If you wish to pursue that dream, then take a visit to Sandgate and the adjacent Bayside suburbs.  They are located just a short 25 minute drive from the Brisbane CBD.  You’ll find a lifestyle steeped in relaxation, healthy choices, entertainment, and enjoyable pursuits.  It really is a  magnificent spot to gently while away a weekend afternoon.

Take a trip to the Bayside

On your visit, take a stroll around the Bay, heading north towards the Hornibrook Bridge and then onto the Redcliffe Peninsular.  You’ll find all the popular suburbs of Shorncliffe, Sandgate and then Brighton.  Within ‘cooee’ of the big city there is a sleepiness and a stillness here that is truly enticing.  On the weekends the energy and vibe ramps up just enough to satisfy both locals and day visitors.    The abundance of quaint shopping areas, markets and scenic spots are the attractions for visitors.

Sandgate shopping has its own unique vibe.   You can source farm produce, a quality organic butcher, home made biscuits, or you can wander through some of the local stores Sandgate.  There is an abundance of coffee spots tucked away in suburban streets or with scenic views across the bay.   At night there is an emerging bar scene.  More than one local favourites hosts live music in the evenings.  For pubs, there’s the renowned Full Moon hotel on the cliff overlooking the bay.

Sandgate attractions

People flock to Sandgate on weekends and holidays for a variety of pleasures.  Wind surfing, Kite surfing, Park run, or taking pooch to one of the popular off leash dog areas are some of the favourites.  You can take a stroll or jog along the stretch of beach from Brighton around to Shorncliffe pier.

Many come however for the simple pleasure of fish and chips by the sea.  Here, Sandgate residents and visitors are spoilt for choice.   You can enjoy the heavily boasted ‘best calamari in Qld’ or the fresh prawns directly from the trawlers off Moreton Bay.  The ocean delicacies are a real winner.  If you wish to indulge in outdoor eating there’s an abundance of parks, BBQ areas and shaded pergolas.  You’ll be completely won over.

There is a great selection of fun events and festivals on the local Bayside calendar.  These range from music on Sundays, to Rock and Roll dances, the annual Arts and Pottery Exhibition or the Bluewater festival at Easter.  Whether it’s attending an event, just watching a sunset, or having a lazy stroll along the waterfront the vibe at Sandgate is worth a visit. However, we do warn you to be careful.   You may find yourself completely SOLD on it.  In that case, you’ll be unable to leave.
